April 13 and 14, 2022

THE NEWEST

Tiny eyes blinking slow

Spittle bubbles blow, blow, blow

Black tar poopy, blue line pee

Scrunchy face that gives us glee

Happy brother squeals with joy

Just wait until he can annoy!

Gifts exchanged, flowers brought

Take out food is often bought

Sleep is fleeting, in short batches

His chin has a cleft that matches

Rooting baby coos and stretches

Twitches, jerks with new reflexes

Life will never be the same

But we’re so happy that you came

SORE

My tonsils are seed pods from a sweet gum tree

Every swallow sends waves of misery

In my ears I feel the urge to scratch

My uvula is the lit wick of a candle scented like death

Though guzzling water,

Instead of saliva, my throat is coated with Saharan sand
