UNREAD BOOKS

Sitting heavy on the shelf

Begging me to help myself

“Crack me open! Look inside!”

“Come plumb the depths of what I hide!”

Stories make-believe and real

Teach us how to love and feel.

Buying one book more is quick

But reading it’s a different schtick.

It takes time and energy,

Thought and curiosity.

I want to read them all, and will

Unless I die before… but still!

My unread books will grow and grow

While read ones grow a bit more slow

THE DRY SPONGE (a haiku)

My brain feels empty—

A sponge left out in the sun.

Wrung out of ideas
